Come Aboard My Summer Escape ⛵️

Come aboard with me as I share my adventure sailing from Newfoundland & St. Pierre.

I recently returned from a two-week sailing trip to Newfoundland and St. Pierre—a summer vacation unlike any other.

Have you ever had that feeling like you’re always doing something, rushing somewhere, or taking care of someone else? Like there’s never really a pause?

This trip gave me the chance to slow down in a way I didn’t even realize I needed.

Meet the Crew!

On the right is my sister-in-law, also named Jessica. Next is me and my husband Mike, and on the left is my brother-in-law, Ed, our captain who has been sailing in Canada the past 2 summers.

Imagine sleeping to the sound of this waterfall!

This was our route!

We sailed through the fjords, Lampidoes Passage and to St. Pierre (an island that is part of France).

We didn't see another town from Francois all the way to Fortune--it was pure wilderness!

We explored remote areas that can only be accessed by boat, including the tiny out-port town of Francois, home to just 60 people and no roads. Once a thriving codfish processing hub, Francois is now one of the few remaining places of its kind in Canada, as most out-port communities have been relocated.

Life aboard Greyling, our sailboat, was beautifully simple: no civilisation, no cellphone service, no stress. Just the lull of the ocean, waking up to the sun, stunning fjords and countless waterfalls. While I wished for warmer weather at times, the scenery and nature more than made up for it—caribou, whales, sunfish, a leatherback turtle, harbor and grey seals, and birds galore: puffins, kittiwakes, and murres.

Our boat is the one farthest up the channel. Note the lines to shore which kept the boat from swinging and wrecking on the shore.

The view of the fjords was majestic!

Here we are at Morgan's Arm--One of the fjords' many waterfalls. It felt good to get onto land and stretch our legs!

One of the most healing parts of the trip was turning my phone to airplane mode and deleting my Gmail app. Even when we had Wi-Fi, I wasn’t tempted.

That sense of disconnection created a surprising spaciousness in my mind—a reminder that just like with Myofascial Release, making space in our lives can be just as powerful as making space in our bodies.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

It wasn’t always sunshine & smiles though…

You can see by my face in this photo that I had lost my "inner calm." I was at the helm trying not to get seasick (after that day I put on a seasickness patch).

I'm not prone to sea sickness but the ocean was stirred up along the coastline where the open ocean would slam into the fjords creating an unsettled sea state.

The depth was up to 1300 feet!

We stopped at so many beautiful anchorages. This one was Middle Goblin.

After all of the sailing, we also enjoyed rafting up and being able to share snacks and sundowners!

I truly encourage you to try your own phone vacation, even for a few hours. We’ve become so used to being constantly online—checking messages, scrolling feeds, answering emails—that we rarely allow ourselves to fully pause.

Letting go of the urge to check my phone helped me really experience the moments: the sound of waves against the boat, the quiet of untouched landscapes, the joy of spotting a puffin mid-dive.

We completed our trip in St Pierre where we saw puffins which filled the sky and blanketed one particular island!

Coming back from this trip, I feel more grounded, energized, and ready to hold space for your healing with fresh eyes and open hands.

A huge thanks to Ashleigh, my virtual assistant, for keeping things running smoothly at Transform MFR while I was away. And thank you to all of you for your support, patience, and for using the Simple Practice client portal during my time off!

As summer begins to wind down and the back-to-school routines ramp up, don’t forget to carve out time for yourself. It’s easy to get swept up in the busyness of fall but your body still needs care, rest, and space to reset.

Whether you're soaking up the last bits of sunshine or adjusting to new rhythms, let MFR support you in moving through this seasonal shift with ease.

If you need support right away and aren’t able to book in with me, don’t forget we have our Exclusive Resource Hub which is filled with self-MFR techniques you can do at home. We also have helpful guides, resources and recommended tools to support your healing journey at home!
