Creativity, Connection, and a Little Fascia Art 🎨

An annual tradition has been born!

One of the highlights last month was receiving a wonderful Myofascial Release session from a dear friend, Eliot Smalheiser of Greene Lotus MFR. We decided to take our sessions outdoors at Lynch Park by the ocean, and it was an incredible experience.

As I received the work, I could feel releases happening while big gusts of wind swept through, birds chirped overhead, waves rolled onto the shore, and a cool ocean breeze surrounded us. Afterward, we traded sessions, and I had the opportunity to work on him as well. I kicked off my shoes and felt the grass between my toes, gazed out at the sea and sky while I waited for the fascia to release.  It was a beautiful exchange and a reminder of the power of both healing touch, human connection, and grounding in nature.

Another memorable experience last month began with dinner and conversation with a good friend, Melanie Wilson-Lloyd,  who is a life coach, Reiki master, and leads some pretty amazing retreats to some amazing places (on my bucket list!).  Check out her website here.

In her previous life she was a creative at an advertising agency. We found ourselves talking about creativity and our desire to make more space for art in our lives. She asked me what keeps me from making art. Jokingly, I replied, "Laundry!" But beneath the joke was a truth: I don't often make time for creative endeavors in my day-to-day life. What I do tend to do is sign up for one off workshops forcing me to carve out the time to get in the creative flow.

Melanie, being the catalyst for change life coach that she is, suggested that we text each other daily with one creative thing we've done. Having an accountability partner has been surprisingly motivating, and it's helping me make creativity a regular part of my life. Mel has inspired me to try drawing with 2 hands simultaneously and some ethereal washes of watercolor… I look forward to her texts with pictures of what she’s created & it reminds me to sit down & connect with my creative side--even if it's just five minutes of doodling, painting, singing a song, or dancing around the house.

Just two days after our dinner, while walking through Magnolia passing time before an energy session, I happened upon Whale Rock Art  Studio, a new art space offering classes for both children and adults. It felt as though the universe had placed it directly in my path.  I signed up for two workshops on the spot.

Last week, I attended their Abstract Painting for Beginners class, and I had so much fun. As I painted line after line, it suddenly dawned on me that I had created... fascia! The interconnected lines and flowing patterns reminded me so much of the fascial system we work with every day.

Here are a few photos of the process and the finished piece. It may never hang on a wall, but creating it brought me so much joy.

I'd love to hear: What creative practice brings you joy these days?

A Few More Highlights This Month

This coming weekend, I'll be repeating the MFR Mobilization Seminar. One of the things I love most about Myofascial Release is that there is always more to learn. Returning to a seminar allows me to refresh my knowledge, deepen my understanding, and refine my skills. Just as importantly, I get to spend the weekend surrounded by my MFR tribeβ€”a community of dedicated therapists who share a passion for healing and lifelong learning.

And on the home front, we have some happy news to report! Our four-month-old rescue kitten from Anguilla, Snapper, and our one-and-a-half-year-old, twenty-pound Maine Coon, Manchego, have officially become best friends. They spend much of the day side by side, following each other from room to room. I've even caught them snuggled up together taking naps. Watching their friendship blossom has been one of the sweetest parts of the summer so far.

A Quick Update

I wanted to let you know that  my session rate has increased to $250.  If you already have sessions booked at the old rate, the change will apply to you effective July 1st.

Like many small business owners, I've seen my operating costs increase over time, and I continue to invest in advanced Myofascial Release training and education so I can bring the best possible care to my clients.

I am incredibly grateful for your support, your trust, and the opportunity to do work that I love every day. Thank you for being part of this wonderful community.

As always, thank you for being here and supporting this journey.

Take good care,
Jessica
